Mechanical engineers make a vital contribution to a variety of industries by developing, implementing and maintaining engineering solutions that ensure products are manufactured efficiently and to customer’s quality requirements. This hands-on course will prepare students to enter an engineering career with varied and exciting prospects. Students could be involved in finding solutions to automate packaging processes for their favourite biscuits or using energy as efficiently as possible throughout a building. Students will be equipped with the skills they need to work as a mechanical engineer ensuring systems meet demand, are reliable, integrated and operate smoothly. There is a strong practical element to the course and students will spend a significant amount of time in workshops and laboratories using their enquiring mind and demonstrating their technical skills and creativity. Mechanical engineers who specialise in systems are tasked with solving complex engineering problems through systems tools and techniques. By choosing this diverse path in engineering, students could go on to work in a wide range of sectors such as transport, process and allied health industries in the UK or further afield. It allows students to learn in a practical, hands-on way to find creative, evaluated solutions to industry related engineering challenges.
