The M.A. Program in Korean Studies is a joint international, interdisciplinary program between Chulalongkorn University (CU) and Seoul National University (SNU).  The program aims to: 1) produce graduates with knowledge of Korean economy, society, politics, international relations, culture, business and industries as well as proficiency in Korean language; and 2) produce new body of knowledge on Korean studies emphasizing relations between Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia and the ASEAN.

In Thailand, there is a strong interest in Korean culture or Korean Wave which is associated with entertainment industry, medical industry, and the business sector, result in the increase in the number of people interested in Korean culture and language. Also, there is an increasing number of Korean businesses in Thailand. However, there is still a lack of Thai people who are proficient in Korean language and aforementioned key aspects of Korea. As a result, the M.A. program in Korean Studies was created to meet these needs.

Chulalongkorn University is Thailand’s oldest and one of the country’s most prestigious universities. It was officially established on March 26 1917 by King Vajiravudh (Rama VI) and named after his father King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) as he initiated a policy to promote education so the country to adapt to the developing world and avoid colonization.Chulalongkorn University opened with four faculties, Medicine, Public Administration, Engineering, and Arts and Sciences and an enrollment of 380 students.
