Background

Sports science and technology is a fast-growing field not only due to the increased awareness of personal health management and the charisma of professional or competitive sports, but also because of the emerging application of technological innovations into the enhancement of athletic performance and safety, as well as the revolutionization of sports management.

Spearheaded by the advancement of microtechnology and wearable sensors, combined with various motion capture, artificial intelligence, and machine learning technologies, athletes and coaches can make data-driven decisions to maximize their potential and minimize their injury risk. The general public can also use smart performance-tracking devices to monitor their physical health through various biometrics to enhance their exercise experience and overcome barriers to physical activity.

Aims

Without a doubt, there will be a surging demand for Sports Product Specialists and Engineers to apply and develop these innovative technologies to optimize human interaction and athletic performance within the world of sports. Our interdisciplinary BSc(Hons) in Sports Science and Technology curriculum aims to equip students with both traditional sports science knowledge as well as technical and engineering skills to meet the challenges of this emerging global field.

Characteristics

Foundational knowledge of sports science and technology will not only be taught by our faculty members through our interdisciplinary curriculum, as experts from the field will also be invited to share their latest knowledge and experiences from the industry through workshops and seminars. In addition, students will also engage in practical learning through industrial internships (280 hours) and study tours.

Internships provide excellent opportunities for students to apply theoretical knowledge gained in the classroom in a real-world setting, accumulate relevant experience, and develop important skills that are essential in the workforce for their future careers; while study tours expose students to non-local learning opportunities such as attending relevant conferences, exhibitions, and major sporting events, as well as visiting university laboratories and sports product companies. In addition, exchange opportunities are also available with our overseas partner institutes or through the Faculty-level and University-level exchange programmes.
