The Process Safety Engineering (RKP) study program is designed to make a significant contribution to meeting the increasingly complex and high-risk needs of modern industry. In its initial phase, the RKP study program was hosted by the ITS Department of Mechanical Engineering, with support from the Departments of Chemical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Systems & Industrial Engineering, and Materials & Metallurgical Engineering. Each of these collaborating departments has received superior accreditation. Process safety is a branch of Occupational Safety and Health (K3) from an engineering perspective, where efforts to improve safety in an industry are concerned with anticipating accidents that have high consequence characteristics/ catastrophic events. In the context of process safety, the term "process" is not only related to chemical reactions, but is related to various processes that exist in an industrial system, for example, machining processes, production processes, manufacturing processes, etc.

Process safety in various literature and industrial practices is oriented to ensure that various substances/objects/materials that undergo various processes in the production line are within the safety corridor. To achieve this, of course, various engineering aspects are needed, including process fundamentals, process equipment fundamentals, material fundamentals and construction facilities, human and environmental fundamentals, and instrumentation fundamentals. One of the important roles of the RKP study program is to provide an understanding of how to implement dynamically evolving industrial safety regulations. Students in this program will learn how to comply with national and international safety standards. Furthermore, this program will play a role in improving industrial process efficiency. Students will be trained to optimize company operations by considering safety aspects.

Graduates of this program will be able to not only create efficient processes but also support safety and environmental sustainability. The RKP study program's contribution also includes preventing accidents and incidents in the workplace. Graduates of this study program will have a deep understanding that allows them to design, operate, maintain, modify, and investigate a system to meet process safety requirements. Thus, graduates of this study program can make a positive contribution to creating a safer work environment and preventing financial losses and negative impacts on the company's reputation. This study program also responds to the demands of industrial globalization by equipping students with an understanding of the different safety requirements across various industrial sectors. This makes graduates highly valuable human resources for companies operating nationally and internationally.
