This course offers numerous research opportunities in health sciences.

Areas of research expertise include: exercise physiology, health systems policy and management, public health, mother and child health, social work, human communication sciences, musculoskeletal research, nursing and midwifery, rehabilitation and injury prevention, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, orthoptics, podiatry, prosthetics and orthotics, dietetics and human nutrition and sex, health and society.

The course includes four online coursework subjects, which provide training in foundation research skills. These may be waived for students who have completed an Honours degree or equivalent.

The qualification awarded on graduation is recognised in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) as Level 9 – Masters Degree by Research.

Academic entry requirement

Prerequisites
The minimum academic requirement for entry to a Master of Applied Science at La Trobe University is a three-year Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline completed within the last ten years with a weighted average mark of 65 or above.

Where an applicant does not meet the normal academic entry requirements, an application may be made for admission on equity or alternative entry grounds where the applicant can demonstrate, through discipline-appropriate forms of evidence:

That they have attained the prior research and/or learning outcomes that normally pertain to the minimum academic entry requirements for the degree, and
That they have the capacity to successfully undertake a higher degree by research.

The following conditions must be met in order to gain admission into a Masters by research degree:

the school in which you seek enrolment must be able to provide appropriate facilities, resources and supervision for your chosen area of research.
