You'll learn how to manage classrooms, design class plans and guide students by spending at least 80 days in schools and education centres across metropolitan, regional and rural Victoria. You'll also be supported with dedicated university mentors to help guide you through your classroom experience.

With campuses across metropolitan, regional and rural Victoria, we collaborate with a range of communities on the things that matter most to them and us. This government-funded program is only available for Educational Support (ES) staff and Koorie Engagement Support Officers (KESO) and specifically designed to address teacher shortages in regional, rural, and hard-to-staff schools. With flexible, accessible training and support, you'll get the opportunity to make an immediate impact in the classroom.

Your study experience will be suited to your busy schedule. The course is designed to offer flexibility, allowing you to teach in schools while still studying full-time, so you can gain practical experience while advancing your education career. You'll also benefit from 24/7 online access to course materials and the option of participating in workshops at your own pace.

By studying La Trobe's Bachelor of Education (Nexus), you will:
  • build your skillset in digital learning, learning contexts, literacy and numeracy, student development and classroom readiness
  • learn how to design learning environments that meets the needs of a wide range of students inclusive of race, gender, ethnicity, socioeconomic and Indigenous status
  • explore the most up-to-date and proven approaches to teaching, then put it into practice with placements embedded into the degree
  • benefit from a supportive learning environment where you'll be mentored by teaching staff and learn from leading researchers who are changing the way people learn to read
  • graduate with an accredited degree and the in-demand skills you need to launch your teaching career.
The Bachelor of Education (Nexus) is available to Educational Support (ES) staff and Koorie Engagement Support Officers (KESO). Entry is only via the Diploma of Teacher Education (Nexus).

Admission Requirements

This course is not available to international students online in 2026.

Selection criteria
All applicants will complete a situation judgement test to support selection into teaching programs. This is a requirement for initial teacher training courses in Victoria and aims to assess an applicants personal and professional attributes. You can either register to sit the online CASPer Test or the La Trobe University School of Education Aptitude for Teaching Assessment (AFTA). You can register for the AFTA online test for free.
