IGIS offers two postgraduate degree programs i.e. MS and PhD in Remote sensing and GIS. The department holds faculty specialized in GIS & Remote sensing with the background in civil engineering, agriculture, hydrology & water resources, geography, urban & regional planning, space sciences, computer science and geology. The curriculum covers not only specific courses related to GIS & remote sensing but also their applications in various fields as elective. The department provides state of the art research facilities to graduate students in terms of licensed software, office space, access to research material and supercomputer facility for high computational modeling and data processing. The department is involved in multidisciplinary research related to glaciology, agriculture, environmental sciences, urban & regional planning, civil & environmental engineering, natural hazard and many others. Understanding the needs and importance of GIS, the institute also offers short courses training to professionals of public and private sectors.

Graduates find employment in the burgeoning geospatial technology industry, in research departments of public and private organizations, and in major academic institutions because of their ability to build bridges to other areas.

Admission Requirements

MS/MPhil/Equivalent in the following:-

•           Remote Sensing & GIS

•           Space Sciences

•           Geodesy, Cartography

•           Geospatial technologies

•           Digital Earth

•           Geoinformation

•           Geomatics / Geoinformatics   Engineering

•           Any other equivalent qualification in relevant subject, as deemed appropriate by the PhD Evaluation and Acceptance committee (PEAC).

•           Minimum CGPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 or 70% in annual system the percentage will be valid only if the CGPA is not mentioned in the degree/ transcript. 18 years of education. GRE Subject International (score > 60 percentile) or GAT Subject by NTS (score > 60 %) or local GRE subject type test (Score>70 %) conducted by NUST (as applicable) is required.
