NUST Institute of Civil Engineering (NICE) is running Water Resources Engineering & Management program to meet the water industry needs of the country.

Water Resources Engineering & Management Degree Program provides flexibility, broad subject coverage, high quality delivery and excellent job prospects on graduation. The course allows development of important technical aspects associated with Water Resources Engineering& Management. It provides the students with comprehensive and diverse understanding of Water Resources Engineering & Management which will allow the students to develop their careers. It is not only successful in providing essential technical aspects in the subject, but also allows a sound practical application of the skills learnt during the course of the studies.

The program focuses on strengthening students’ knowledge in water resources engineering & management, exposing them to issues related to engineering hydrology, hydraulics engineering, river engineering, sediment transport, water resources economics, planning & management.

PhD in Water Resources Engineering & Management is of minimum 3 years and maximum 8 years duration course work cum thesis research work program, which is organized by the NUST Institute of Civil Engineering (NICE) under academic control of National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST). The program has the following requirements:

·          The academic semesters are of 16 weeks duration each in which different courses of three credit hours are offered. The minimum coursework required will be 18 credits of 800/900 level courses or equivalent. These 18 credit hours will be in addition to the pre-requisites specified by the PhD Evaluation and Acceptance Committee (PEAC) of the Institution.

·          In addition to the coursework, all doctoral students must register for at least 30 credits of doctoral research. Thesis is a report comprising the original research work of a student which is counted towards the partial fulfillment of student’s PhD degree under the supervision of Guidance and Examination Committee (GEC).

·          Minimum qualifying cumulative GPA required will be 3.5 out of 4.0 in the 18 credit hours of 800/900 level courses to be counted towards PhD.

·          Each student must pass each paper of Part A - the subject examination of PhD comprehensive examination with a minimum of 65% marks and Part B – the Oral Examination, (defence of synopsis) by majority vote.

·          Each student must carry out literature survey and prepare a written synopsis of student’s intended topic of research and present the same along with research plan at the beginning of Part B (the Oral Examination) of the Qualifying Examination for approval.

·          A student must have a minimum of two research publications, related to PhD research work, as 1st author in Journals with WoS-JCR Impact      Factor.

There are three types of financial aid offered by NUST: • Need based scholarships. • Merit based scholarships / financial assistance. • Interest free loans.
A. The scholarship management committee assesses financial need of all candidates and determines whether or not candidate’s family has sufficient resources to afford fee at NUST. The need is determined on the basis of the financial credentials submitted by the candidate.
Minimum degree completion time is 1½ academic years (3 regular semesters), whereas maximum time is 4 years.
No fee will be charged for course repetition / improvement during a regular semester, if the student is registered for the semester and has paid the standard tuition fee. However, beyond the stipulated two year period, student has to pay fee on credit hours basis irrespective of the semester being attended.
A student shall pay 25% of the semester fee for Deferment / Suspension of semester, however, in case of 1st semester deferment, 50% tuition fee will be charged.
