As an undergraduate journalism major you enter our program as a novice journalist and you have many opportunities to exit as a journalist or public relations practitioner with skills and experience. Our required journalism classes combined with innovative electives are designed to teach you the critical skills and knowledge you need to be the best journalist or public relations practitioner you can be. Required subject areas outside of journalism will give you a broad view of the world. If you’re interested in public relations, a journalism education is the best path to the practice. You not only learn good journalism writing, you learn how to work with journalists and write for the news media - a critical part of most public relations jobs. You can take public relations courses that introduce you to the profession, promote critical thinking, employ teamwork, and allow you to practice your profession in a classroom environment. The School of Journalism has opened my eyes to a much bigger, broader and more exciting world.
