The Media and Screen Studies Program offers a Bachelor of Arts in Media and Screen Studies. The major focuses on both the use of critical thinking skills to analyze media (including film and digital media) and the theory and skills of media production (including film, TV and video production). Our program’s media production courses give students the skills to make film (documentary and fiction), video, and television content. We also offer courses devoted the analysis of a wide range of media (film, TV, digital, music). These courses expose students to different ways to think about media content, media platforms, and media production. The option for students to combine analysis courses and production courses within one degree is based on the belief that to be innovative you need to be continually exposed to new ways of thinking, and to actively participate in the world you need to be able to imagine new possibilities. Students of the program should be able to: Apply basic knowledge of the fundamental techniques of video-based film production in visual projects. Define terms, concepts, and theories that are fundamental to the study of media. Apply analytical and critical thinking skills to media texts. Plan, write, and present original research papers and presentations, incorporating an analytical understanding of concepts and ideas in Media and Screen Studies.
