BS in International Business (BSIB) degree has offered a unique program to undergraduate business students: integrated learning through academic and experiential opportunities. The BSIB Program immerses students in a foreign culture to experience the academic, professional and personal components of the global marketplace. Entrepreneurship and innovation offers a dynamic set of courses for students considering career paths as either start up entrepreneurs or corporate innovators. In addition to the general concentration, we also offer three specific tracks of study: technology entrepreneurship, family business entrepreneurship, and social entrepreneurship. We also offer exciting co‑op jobs in a broad range of early stage firms as well as more established companies, including family businesses. Teaching you are professors who have also been entrepreneurs and innovators in their own careers and who are now accomplished researchers. This makes our courses both cutting edge and “real world.” There are also specialized field study programs abroad called Dialogues of Civilization in places such as South Africa, India, Italy, and South Korea. By taking one of these dialogues, a student has an opportunity to earn the right to use the global designation on his or her resume, i.e., global technology entrepreneurship, global family business entrepreneurship, or global social entrepreneurship. The Northeastern Center for Entrepreneurship Education (NUCEE) is a university-wide program that helps undergraduate and graduate students, as well as alumni, start new companies. This is a system of experiential entrepreneurship education: Classroom education and co‑ops are the first step. The next step is incubating new ventures right on campus in the student-led organization, IDEA. With our support, many of these ventures launch as funded and self-sustaining companies in the field. The Entrepreneurship and Innovation Group is the platform for many of these activities. In addition to NUCEE, the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Group provides leadership with the Center for Family Business and the globally recognized Social Enterprise Institute (SEI). The Center for Family Business runs local programs that offer members advice and guidance on the many different aspects of running a family business, while SEI provides microfinance and small-business consulting field trips abroad. Whether you wish to concentrate in entrepreneurship and innovation or use it as a dual concentration (such as with finance or marketing), these courses are important components of business education in today’s economy. Even if you don’t wish to start your own company, entrepreneurial thinking is a valued attribute of every executive in companies of all sizes and in all industries. Program Goals and Benefits: Within the BSIB Program, students expand cross-cultural awareness, develop proficiency in a foreign language, gain technical competence and professional confidence, increase understanding and experience in international business practices, and acquire unique insights from the experience of living, studying and working abroad.
