The Master of Criminal Justice and Criminology (MCJC) is a joint program offered by the School of Public Affairs in the College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts and the Department of Sociology in the College of Arts and Letters. The program offers students a unique opportunity to integrate knowledge from sociology, criminology, and criminal justice. It combines research expertise of faculty members from both disciplines. The MCJC program emphasizes research methods and theoretical perspectives in criminology and criminal justice with substantive course work in social control systems and policies, research and evaluation of criminal justice programs, and international criminal justice. Students learn to apply theory and methods to real-world research and policy issues at the local, state, national, and international levels. Moreover, students in the program undertake a course of study that prepares them to teach at the community college level; for further academic work in doctoral or law degree programs; or, to work in criminal justice, research, or public policy positions.
