B.A. Degree in Art

The Art degree at SDSU will enable you to expand your perceptual skills, generate original ideas, and develop a broad cultural awareness of the visual arts in society. While pursuing an Art degree, you will learn to think visually and acquire a creative intelligence through practicing and studying visual arts. The School of Art, Design, and Art History has the following areas of emphasis: art history; applied design, with specialties in ceramics, furniture, and metalsmithing/jewelry; interior design; graphic design; multimedia, painting and printmaking; sculpture; and studio arts. The School also offers a program of study for the single subject waiver program in Art. Career Opportunities: Graduates of the School are employed in a variety of settings; some work for companies while others are self-employed. Some of the more common career possibilities include: Graphic designer, corporate image designer, layout/production artist, advertising artist, print production specialist, graphic illustrator, technical illustrator; Color consultant, furniture designer, interior designer, architectural designer, environmental designer, display designer, showroom director, visual design coordinator, textile/weaving designer; Art collector/appraiser, advisor to philanthropic groups, art critic and reviewer, curatorial/museum worker, editorial advisor, gallery director, periodical/mass media researcher; Manufacturing representative, industrial product development stylist; Teachers (all levels), advertising instructor, art educator, arts and crafts director, jeweler/metalsmith, potter, sculptor, studio artist.
