Photography  bridges cultural divides to document human history and reflect its beauty. At SCAD, you'll frame your own distinct point of view, learning the full spectrum of photography — historic and analog processes through modern and next-generation digital technologies — on the way to launching your creative career. You'll master visual literacy and enhance your personal style with color and composition, boosting your portfolio with opportunities to gain inspiration from exhibitions at SCAD museums and galleries, as well as real-world experience in coveted internships. You'll also have the chance to bolster your photography skills by exploring related creative fields like advertising or graphic design. SCAD photography students graduate prepared to specialize in a range of photography mediums, publish books and magazines, and exhibit in museums and galleries around the world. The art of photography is uniquely suited to an interdisciplinary approach to learning, and many students seek multiple degrees during their time here. This helps creates a specialized voice and finely individualized approach to the medium.

While not required of most applicants, submission of GRE scores is strongly encouraged for applicants to architectural history, art history, business design and arts leaderships and cinema studies. Additionally, if your undergraduate program doesn't meet certain requirements regarding accreditation and/or approval by the U.S. Department of Education, GRE scores may be required. Please discuss this with your admission adviser to be sure what will be required of you. Acceptance into graduate programs at SCAD is based heavily on the portfolio. Unlike undergraduate portfolios, graduate program portfolios are required for acceptance and must be program-specific. Each program has its preferred types of portfolios.
