Pursue your career as a themed entertainment designer at the first university to offer an M.F.A. degree in this multibillion-dollar global industry. We leverage a comprehensive curriculum that explores architecture, new media, film, live theater, and augmented and virtual reality so that you can design attractions from the ground up. With behind-the-scenes trips to leading theme parks, insights from expert faculty, and professional collaborations through SCADpro, you’re well on your way to ascending great heights. Work with peers in animation, production design, interior design, and other disciplines to create experiences like Search for the Gryphon and Destination Imagination, which use VR to take guests deep into the ocean and high above the stars. Explore related fields while you’re here and even take additional courses to complement your degree in themed entertainment design. You can explore new perspectives, harness diverse creative approaches, and develop a unique, well-rounded style through related programs.

While not required of most applicants, submission of GRE scores is strongly encouraged for applicants to architectural history, art history, business design and arts leaderships and cinema studies. Additionally, if your undergraduate program doesn't meet certain requirements regarding accreditation and/or approval by the U.S. Department of Education, GRE scores may be required. Please discuss this with your admission adviser to be sure what will be required of you. Acceptance into graduate programs at SCAD is based heavily on the portfolio. Unlike undergraduate portfolios, graduate program portfolios are required for acceptance and must be program-specific. Each program has its preferred types of portfolios.
