The visual arts and technology program at Stevens Institute of Technology offers a B.A. and minor at the intersection of art and technology. Students study areas as diverse as video, animation, visualization, design, and fabrication, merging cutting-edge and traditional processes in art with creativity, critique, and hands-on learning. What You Will Study: In visual arts and technology, students select related courses in the engineering, science, and business programs as well as courses in the College of Arts and Letters. The program also offers computer graphics and visualization courses developed by the Department of Computer Science. Our curriculum draws on traditional as well as new and emerging art forms but is rooted in historical, theoretical, and critical inquiry. The program utilizes New York City's museums and galleries as well as artists and other art professionals based in the area. Guided primarily by aesthetic criteria, our major fosters practical experience through internships and work in professional organizations and design studios in the metropolitan region. Additionally, opportunities to learn from visiting artists and artists in residence are provided. We also provide a conduit for partnerships among artists, engineers, and scientists both within and beyond Stevens. Building on the university's efforts to promote interdisciplinary research and academic collaboration, our major is a center for innovation and creativity. Degree Outcomes: Recent graduates have secured job positions as UI/UX Designer at 72 Pixels; Social and Digital Innovation at Stuart Weitzman Holdings; Freelance Photo Editor at Rolling Stone; Web Support Specialist at Multimedia Internet Services; SMB Account Executive at AvePoint; Developer at Vayner Media; and Digital Producer at Studio LLC, among others. Visual Arts & Technology graduates are also pursuing graduate study at Savannah College of Art and Design; Royal College of Art, London; and Duquesne Law School.
