High-quality research is crucial to improving health and well-being within our communities, and effective long-term policy and practice interventions depend on the latest evidence.

With a clear focus on translating academic theory into positive practical outcomes for practitioners, patients, and carers, our cutting-edge nursing research addresses an extensive range of issues from professional working and patient care, to the development of new treatments and interventions.

We have an outstanding reputation for nursing at Swansea and are ranked:

  • In the Top 100 in the QS World Rankings
  • 7th in the UK for Nursing (Guardian University Guide 2020)

Over the course of your studies, you will develop and enhance transferable skills such as problem-solving, project management, and critical thinking that are valued in any professional setting.

Our students are currently researching topics including the emotional experiences of children’s nurses while caring for life-limiting conditions, and nursing students’ care towards obese patients.

As a student at our School of Health and Social Care, you will benefit from a dynamic and supportive research environment with many opportunities to make connections across disciplines and develop links with organisations and policymakers both in the UK and abroad. As such, you can be confident that your research will inform and be informed by the wider health and social care environment.

According to the most recent Research Excellence Framework in 2014-2021, over 75% of the research carried out at the college was of international or world-leading quality.

Recent research funding and collaboration partners include:

  • Welsh Government
