Biomedical engineering research at Swansea

We have a broad programme of research, applying engineering principles to the human body and to the machines and instrumentation used in modern healthcare. We also have a longstanding interest in computational and mathematical analysis of biomedical systems.

Our work falls within three research themes:

  • Bioanalytics – data modelling and statistical analysis
  • Biomaterials – developing novel therapeutics
  • Biomechanics – experimental & computational study of biomechanical systems

The Biomedical engineering research degrees at Swansea University draw on the significant expertise within our department and our colleagues across the Faculty of Science and Engineering. We also have an extensive network of collaborative research programmes with medical schools and institutes such as the Methodist Hospital Research Centre in Houston, and with industry partners such as GSK, Bruker Nano, Olympus Surgical Technologies and Renishaw.
