This innovative course is designed to provide the necessary knowledge and skills to manage complex systems effectively in various sectors, including but not limited to ICT, Engineering, Aquaculture, Defence, Cyber Security and Health and Care.

Our course equips students with the knowledge and skills to navigate, analyse, and lead within dynamic, interconnected organisational environments. Designed for managers and professionals seeking to understand and influence complexity in modern enterprises, this pathway integrates core management foundations with advanced study of operations, asset management, and systems thinking. It is particularly suited to individuals working in infrastructure, engineering, logistics, and other sectors where resilience, sustainability, and adaptability are critical.

This programme develops both conceptual and applied understanding of how complex systems function and how they can be effectively managed. You will explore the principles and applications of complexity science, advanced operations management, and the management of assets in uncertain and evolving contexts. Through applied learning and research, you will gain the ability to design solutions that account for uncertainty, interdependence, and systemic risk—key challenges for contemporary organisations.

The programme is structured into three segments. The first introduces MBA foundations in strategy, innovation, and leadership. The second develops specialist knowledge in complex systems, focusing on operations and asset management alongside complexity principles and applications. The final segment centres on the Research in Practice project, embedded throughout the course and enabling you to apply your learning to a real-world organisational problem.

This course is available part-time. You will complete the core MBA modules in year one and progress to the complex systems modules in year two. This flexible design will allow you to balance professional responsibilities with postgraduate study while ensuring deep engagement with both foundational and specialist topics.
