The M.Arch. is a first professional degree. Tyler Architecture focuses on design in the contexts of cultural and technological innovation as well as in stewardship of the built and natural environment. The program stresses critical inquiry as part of the creative process, teaching students how to assess and intervene in the physical world through carefully considered acts of making. The department engages the city, exploring and addressing the ethical and social dimensions of architecture and the built environment, and through this seeks to develop an ethos of leadership in our students, preparing them to become active participants in practices and discourses surrounding the complex global and local issues of our time. The curriculum is designed for a full-time load of 15 credits per term. Accreditation: The M.Arch degree program is accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB), which requires publication of the following statement: In the United States, most state registration boards require a degree from an accredited professional degree program as a prerequisite for licensure. Job Prospects: The Master of Architecture is an accredited professional degree program that prepares students for a career as a professional architect. Students are eligible to sign up for the Intern Development Program (IDP) upon admission to the program and to take the architecture licensing exams according to the schedule of internship and licensure as determined by the architecture registration board in the state in which the student wishes to obtain licensure. Because this is an urban program located centrally in Philadelphia, engagement with the local professional community is a primary characteristic of the program. During the time in the program, students are introduced to the IDP and engage with members of the profession through design critiques and mentorship initiatives.
