The Youth and Family Ministry degree is designed to prepare and equip students to minister to adolescents and families in a church setting. Students will receive a thorough grounding in University Core and general education Bible classes, then gain hands-on experience and practical training in ministering to youth and families. Degree objectives With this major, you will: Gain a solid theological foundation in the Bible, both Old and New Testaments. Study the principles of the New Testament and how those are applied to daily life and ministry. Learn the history of the church universal and the Restoration Movement, seeking to understand the impact of that heritage on church today. Receive both theoretical instruction and practical training in ministry through a variety of classes, especially classes pertaining to youth ministry, and an internship with a youth group. Student Opportunities While we welcome all who desire to serve God, we view ministry and mission work as a high calling, demanding high standards. Therefore all students who want to receive a degree from the Department of Bible, Missions and Ministry must complete an acceptance process, usually during the sophomore year. This process is intended to ensure that ACU graduates are equipped for the demands of ministry. Requirements include demonstration of academic ability, satisfactory completion of psychological testing, recommendations from church leaders and ACU faculty, and a personal essay. Student Events and Opportunities Students are involved in a number of communities Service programs in the Abilene area.
