This degree is designed for students who long to reach people with the message of Jesus. After receiving a solid foundation in University Core and general education Bible classes, students will be trained and equipped to go and share the gospel message with people in a variety of cultural settings. Vocational Missions is designed for students with a passion for God's Word and strong people skills, who intend to pursue "tent-making" ministry in another cultural or geographical setting. In other words, these students plan to support themselves through secular work while living as part of a mission team. Degree objectives With this major, you will: Gain a solid theological foundation in the Bible, both Old and New Testaments. Study the principles of the New Testament and how those are applied to daily life and ministry. Learn the history of the church universal and the Restoration Movement, seeking to understand the impact of that heritage on church today. Receive both theoretical instruction and practical training in ministry, especially church planting and cross-cultural missions. Gain missions experience through Missions Seminar, Missions Focus and internships with organizations such as World Wide Witness and Let's Start Talking. Student Opportunities While we welcome all who desire to serve God, we view ministry and mission work as a high calling, demanding high standards. Therefore all students who want to receive a degree from the Department of Bible, Missions and Ministry must complete an acceptance process, usually during the sophomore year. This process is intended to ensure that ACU graduates are equipped for the demands of ministry. Requirements include demonstration of academic ability, satisfactory completion of psychological testing, recommendations from church leaders and ACU faculty, and a personal essay. Student Events and Opportunities Students are involved in a number of communities Service programs in the Abilene area.
