In the very changing context of Medical Genetics, the rapidly growing demand concerns both rare diseases around perinatal or pediatric pathologies and adult diseases such as cardiovascular, psychiatric, neurological and cancers. Added to this is access to the care of genomic data resulting from the France Medicine Genomics 2025 program. It appears necessary to consolidate the new paramedical professions involved in the sector: genetic counsellors, hospital and bio engineers - computer scientist specialized in genetics.

With regard more particularly to genetic counsellors, their activity is essential to enable doctors to respond to the increasingly large flow of patients, by ensuring a human presence, of direct contact, to accompany the patient journey. and their relatives; and taking the necessary time.

It is important to note that there are many positions currently vacant. The results of a national survey made public in March 2021 consider it essential to more than double the number of professionals by 2030. To achieve this objective, an expansion of training is essential, with its creation in Ile de France, in University of Paris.

This academic program is part of Université Paris Cité’s Graduate School Society & Health, linking master’s and doctoral courses to cutting-edge research laboratories. The Graduate School offers training in the humanities and social sciences, with a diversified research approach to studying the health system.
