The STAPS APA-S master's programs train students in scientific, technical, and organizational expertise in the fields of adapted physical activity and health. Each master's track corresponds to a specific specialization within the various STAPS units.

The objectives of the STAPS APAS masters are to train students in the adaptation of physical and sporting activity to a particular public (motor, sensory, mental disability, mental disorders, chronic pathologies, cancer, elderly people) and/or to use all physical and/or sporting activities for the purposes of prevention, rehabilitation (or readaptation), post-rehabilitation, re-education, education and/or social integration with disabled and/or aging people.

The dramatic increase in life expectancy and the concern for maintaining its quality have opened up numerous areas for reflection and intervention in the economic, social, and medical fields. The constraints, sometimes significant, linked to the urban environment and transportation have become ubiquitous. Beyond the medical field, the prevention of dependency is now a major challenge.

This Master's program stems from a conviction: preventing dependency begins with preserving people's mobility. The use of adapted physical and cognitive activities, and the adaptation of living spaces and conditions through new technologies, are all tools to be implemented to achieve this goal. These also open up a wide range of professional fields. The stated ambition: " prevent, preserve, and compensate ."

The VHMA professional Master's program has been offered by the UFR STAPS (Faculty of Sports Sciences) of the Universities of Paris and Paris-Saclay since 2004. It represents a specialization within the STAPS degree: Adapted Physical Activity and Health (APA-S). This Master's program has been available as a work-study program/apprenticeship in the second year (M2) since 2011.
