The Life Sciences degree program offers a foundation in biology. Its multidisciplinary approach is fostered by knowledge in chemistry, physics, computer science, and mathematics—disciplines at the interface of biology and essential for understanding living organisms and their functions. In addition to course units that provide access to disciplinary skills, there is a pre-professional component to help students develop their personal and professional projects. After a common core curriculum in the first two years (L1 and L2), four tracks are offered in the third year (L3): "Biology-Computer Science," "Genetics," "Interdisciplinary Track in Biology," and "Biochemistry, Integrative Biology, and Physiology," allowing for progressive specialization.
The third-year Interdisciplinary Biology track is offered by the Biology Department of the École Normale Supérieure (ENS), which provides high-level research training in the Life Sciences, emphasizing integrated and quantitative approaches. The first year of study in the Department is designated as the PIB (Interdisciplinary Biology Track) within the Life Sciences Bachelor's degree at the University of Paris.
