The institute was established in 1992. In light of the increasing importance of collaboration with clinical medicine, our headquarter and laboratory spaces are located at the second floor of the university hospital. Our faculty is currently comprised of 7 full-time staff and 11 adjunct teachers. The research fields of our staff are quite diverse including signaling of cells, protein-protein interactions, modulation of protein synthesis, cytokine regulation and molecular mechanism of autoimmunity. In addition, we keep intimate research collaboration with medical doctors from our teaching hospital in genetic diseases, autoimmune diseases, infectious diseases…etc. Our teaching program is also plentiful. Aside from the regular courses of Master and PhD programs, we offered the Master course since 1999 for the part-timers who are interested in the molecular biology. Under the supervision of Medical College, we began to offer an integrated course for 〝Genomic Medicine〞since 2000 for promoting the main stream education and research in 21th century in collaboration with Medical School, Institute of Clinical Medicine and Institute of Biological Chemistry and Molecular Biology. 〝Genetic Counseling〞is an another hot topic in the pre-clinical medicine. We have hosted the Master program for it in 2003 academic year in conjunction with Department of OBS/GYN and Department of Pediatrics, School of Medicine and Department of Nursing and Department of Medical Genetics, National Taiwan University Hospital for promoting the progression of genetic counseling domestically. We expect the intramural cooperation will be more intimate with other academic disciplines including both basic and clinical scientists.
