The Department was founded in 1956. In near 60 years history, there are more than one thousand graduates with excellent performance in the related field. The master program was established in 1987. More than two hundred students accomplished their master degrees. Since the year of 2002, the Department established a program leading to the degree of doctor of philosophy.
The Department faculty includes seven professors, three associate professors, four assistant professors, and one teaching assistant. Among the faculty members, there are fourteen with doctoral, and one with master.
The teaching aims of the Department include: enhancing the level of medical technology; training students to be medical technologists, environmental, food, and hygiene inspectors, or laboratory managers; educating students to be researchers in the field of medical laboratory science and biotechnology.
A total of 147 research papers published by the Department in the past 5 years, most of them were published in the journals among the SCI list.
