The Department of Engineering Science and Ocean Engineering is unique in that it combines electrical engineering, information technology, mechanical engineering, naval and ocean engineering in its research and education. The ultimate goal is to lay the foundation and provide the best environment for multidisciplinary engineering education.

The Department of Engineering Science and Ocean Engineering (ESOE) contains two major research and educational fields. The first one focuses on opto-mechatronics and information; the second one concentrates on naval architecture, ocean engineering, applied mechanics and computational science. On the research aspect, the research groups of the department focus in the fields of offshore wind energy, ocean energy, bio-photonics, intelligent wireless sensor network, piezoelectric switching power supplies, opto-mechatronics systems, advanced fluid power control, high efficiency circuit & system, nano-photonics underwater vehicle, naval architecture, ocean engineering, composite material, underwater acoustics, vibration and application ultrasonic, smart structure, applied acoustics, computation and simulation of health and healing, multimedia network, bio-informatics and computer-aided design.

Graduates from the department are highly sought for in the semiconductor, photonics, IT, off-shore windfarm, naval and ocean engineering industries with great career outlook. (For details, please refer to http://www.esoe.ntu.edu.tw)
