The research topics of the faculty in GIPO cover a broad spectrum of photonics and optoelectronics technologies, including

1. Display technologies: liquid crystal display (LCD), organic-light-emitting-diode (OLED) display, amorphous/poly-/micro-crystalline Silicon thin film transistors, transparent metal oxide semiconductor, flexible electronics, projection display, stereoscopic/auto-stereoscopic 3D display, and optical MEMS for display applications.
2. Energy technologies: solid-state lighting, organic/inorganic/hybrid solar cells, and novel materials/nanostructures for light-emitting devices.
3. Nano-technologies: quantum dots, nano-rods, nano-wires, photonic crystals, surface plasmonics, and nm-scale fabrication/measurements.
4. Nonlinear-optics technologies: nonlinear photonic crystals, wavelength conversion, and ferroelectric nonlinear photonic devices.
5. Optical fiber communication technologies: active/passive fiber-based devices, modules/subsystems in optical fiber communication, DWDM systems, optical interconnect, and photonic integration circuits.
6. Optoelectronic devices: wide-band-gap semiconductors, LiNbO3 waveguides, silicon-photonics, quantum dot/quantum well light-emitting devices, laser diodes, amplifiers, photo-detectors, CMOS optoelectronic devices, and Nitride-based semiconductor devices.
7. Bio-photonic technologies: bio-sensing, bio-photonic instrumentation, optical coherence tomography, non-invasive optical microscopy, harmonic imaging, and THz imaging.
8. Computer-assisted simulations: optical and THz waveguide structures, micro-/nano-structures, photonic crystal structures, optoelectronic devices, optical elements/systems, and bio-photonics.
