The Graduate Institute in Foreign Languages and Literatures welcomes prospective international students. Our Graduate Institute is the largest program of its kind in Taiwan, bringing together 70 faculty members and nearly 100 graduate students working across theoretical debates and textual forms in literature and culture. The MA program concentrates on English and American literatures and other topics relevant to these areas. Research in the PhD program concentrates on English and American literatures, comparative literature, and other topics and approaches relevant to these areas. Through a wide range of seminars, visiting speakers, and other academic events, students in our Institute have the opportunity to engage with some of the most pressing issues in the discipline of literary and cultural studies today.

Our graduate program offers students opportunities to receive teaching and research assistantships as well as funding to travel to international conferences. Our university also offers, on a competitive basis, fellowships and scholarships for outstanding international students at the MA and PhD levels.

Listed in the latest QS University Rankings as one of the top 100 universities in the world, NTU is Taiwan's premier research university with over 2000 faculty members and over 15,000 graduate students. Our spacious campus is located in the heart of Taipei City in a dynamic district with numerous bookstores, cafes, and other amenities at our doorstep. We invite you to join us.

Non-Chinese speakers should be reminded that while English is a popular language in Taiwan and is used by many of our colleagues as the language of instruction, Taiwan is primarily a bastion of Chinese culture and Mandarin is the undisputed lingua franca. Please do not expect a wide range of courses across all disciplines taught in English.
