Our BEng (Hons) Aerospace Engineering provides you with the core skills and specialist knowledge needed to launch your thriving career as an aerospace engineering, combining the core disciplines of mechanical engineering with specific application to aerospace engineering, with a strong focus on the current and emerging needs of the aeronautical industry.
This programme is aimed at those who are interested in getting a career in designing, developing and building aircraft, spacecraft, and satellites. You’ll take courses from across our engineering disciplines to ensure you gain a foundation of essential knowledge.
Throughout your studies, you will apply your learned theoretical knowledge to practical work, using state-of-the-art equipment and facilities including wind tunnels, a supersonic test rig, and industry-standard software for computational fluid dynamics, finite element, and computer aided design.
Reasons to study this programme:
- Global Perspective: Opportunity to study at Heriot-Watt’s campus in Dubai through the Go Global programme.
- Blend of skills: A curriculum based on a mix of mandatory and elective courses to develop skills that combine knowledge on biological sciences and sought after soft skills, such as problem-solving, communication, and practical presentation skills.
- Excellence in Rankings: We take pride in our ranking as the 1st in Scotland in the Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2026.
- Comprehensive, customisable curriculum: Provides opportunity to specialise in several areas through optional courses, including energy studies, spacecraft systems, automotive technologies and orbital mechanics.
- Supported learning: Delivered through a combination of lectures, tutorials, and laboratory practicals and be assessed by coursework, examinations and an individual project while receiving support and feedback throughout the programme.
- World-class facilities: Gain access to specialist equipment, computing software and labs, including a large-scale aerospace engineering lab for practical work in dynamics, materials and design, machining and manufacturing facilities, 3D printers a uniaxial testing machine and more.
