Overview

Embark on a global learning journey with our MSc International Master in Industrial Management (IMIM). This unique programme gives the opportunity to study at leading international universities, allowing you to immerse yourself in the dynamic field of industrial management across contexts and cultures. The program aims to equip students with a science or engineering educational backgrounds with business skills relevant for pursuing managerial careers in internationally orientated manufacturing and service industries. 


This programme is taught full-time over 16 months by leading universities, offering a unique global experience. You will have the opportunity to study in Scotland, Spain, the UAE, Mexico, and Italy.  


Throughout the master’s program, you will develop a profound understanding of contemporary issues in Industrial Management. You will be encouraged to critically examine, evaluate, and reflect on the current and future challenges in global industries and service companies. In addition, you'll develop managerial skills for effective communication and teamwork at all organisational levels.  

Beyond the academic curriculum, you’ll will develop key transferrable skills which will set you up for life after graduation. In addition, the international nature of the programme means you’ll communicate and work with individuals from all over the world, helping you navigate and appreciate diversity and multiculturalism. 


Successful candidates will receive both an MSc in Industrial Management (International) from Heriot-Watt University and an International Master in Industrial Management from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.

The IMIM programme is run by a unique partnership of leading universities in the area of industrial management. Each partner is internationally recognised for an area of expertise in fields such as innovation, logistics and finance; however, all partners share a global outlook and a unified approach that extends beyond technical knowledge. This collaborative effort ensures a well-rounded and comprehensive learning experience for program participants. 


Your learning environment   

The IMIM program consists of a combination of mandatory and elective courses. Core topics cover industrial engineering, project management, logistics, marketing, finance, and entrepreneurship. In addition, students can choose to take electives in areas such as innovation management, sustainability, and international business. 


In the final semester of the programme, students are required to complete a master’s thesis on a topic related to industrial management. The thesis can be in the form of a company report. 


Throughout the programme, students participate in interactive classes, group projects, and case studies, which allow them to apply their knowledge and develop practical skills. Outside the classroom, there is a variety of opportunities to engage in social and cultural activities– for example, you can consider taking a language course, travel or participate in social events. 


Outside of the classroom, you can join Heriot-Watt’s Business Society which holds regular social events and provides networking opportunities and insights into career prospects in Economics, Business, Finance, and other relevant industries.   


Customise your learning   

Whilst studying semester two at Heriot-Watt, you’ll learn from the core two courses, with the choice of two optional courses to explore the area of industrial management that interests you the most.  This gives you the opportunity to customise your degree to match your specific interests or career pathway by selecting a specialist course option.   


In semester three, you have the choice to study at one of these international universities: Heriot-Watt Dubai (United Arab Emirates), Politecnico di Torino (Italy), Northwestern Polytechnical University of Xi’an (China), or Technológico de Monterrey (Mexico). In semester four, you can study anywhere in the world, in close collaboration with companies, where you will explore your chosen area of industrial management through your dissertation. You will be required to demonstrate your mastery of the subject area by developing new insight from the analysis of valuable primary research.


Industry  

We work closely with the industry to ensure our course content is up-to-date and reflects the current and emerging needs of the industry and employers. You’ll gain the right blend of knowledge, practical skills, and soft skills to set you up for life after graduation.   

The IMIM will make it easier for you to find a job upon graduating. Many of our recent graduates have gone on to find employment in European-based companies all over the world, across industries, functional roles, and geographical locations. The degree will provide you with the crucial blend of skills that employers so desperately seek. You’ll gain experience in online collaborative working, business communications, and synthesising diverse information sources, which is highly valued by employers worldwide.
