Our BEng (Hons) Architectural Engineering provides you with the knowledge and skills needed by industry to design buildings that not only provide sustainable and low energy environments that have a positive influence on the health and wellbeing of the people who use them, but buildings that are also resilient and adaptable to future climate change.
In the latter years of the degree, you’ll focus on practical inter-disciplinary design and management skills, with an emphasis on your personal development as an Architectural Engineer within the professional environment.
This industry-focused degree will ensure you have the knowledge and skills required for the specification, design, and management of engineering services required in buildings with an emphasis on energy efficient and sustainable solutions.
Reasons to study this programme:
- Global Perspective: Opportunity to study at Heriot-Watt’s campus in Dubai through the Go Global programme.
- Comprehensive, customisable curriculum: Provides opportunity to specialise in several areas through optional courses, including Hydraulics and Hydrology, Surveying, Cost Modelling and Measurement, and Innovation in Construction Practice.
- Supported learning: Delivered through a combination of lectures, seminars, tutorials, field trips, projects, and laboratory practicals and be assessed by coursework, examinations and a design project while receiving support and feedback throughout the programme.
- Professional accreditation: Accredited by two important industry bodies, the Chartered Institute of Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), and the Energy Institute (EI), giving employers confidence in the quality of this programme and help graduates gain a competitive edge in the industry and job market.
- World-class facilities: Gain access to specialist equipment, computing software and labs, including a building services lab, an anechoic chamber, acoustic labs, a thermodynamics lab and more.
- Applied learning: Opportunity to gain practical experience in a week-long field course, providing hands-on construction working alongside professional engineers and tradesmen to construct scaled down versions of buildings, bridges, dams, and other engineering structures from all around the world.
