The Department of Economics was opened under the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences after the establishment of our University with the Law No. 5765 dated May 22, 2008 and published in the Official Gazette dated May 31, 2008 and numbered 26892 and published in the Official Gazette dated May 31, 2008 and numbered 26892, and started its education and training activities by taking its first students in the 2009-2010 Academic Year. Our department, which continued its activities in its building on the Ağdacı campus from the beginning until 2021, moved to the new building on the Kutlubey Campus of our University after this date and continues to serve here. In order to be accredited, it applied to the STAR accreditation organization on 19.04.2024 and the process is ongoing. There are four departments within the Economics program: Economic Theory, Economic Development and International Economics, Economic Policy and Economic History. Students who have successfully completed their undergraduate education can continue their postgraduate education in our Master's Program with Thesis in the Department of Economics or in our Master's Program with Thesis in the Department of Regional Development Economics. In addition, students who wish to do so can also pursue graduate education in the interdisciplinary Entrepreneurship Department Distance Education Non-Thesis Master's Degree Program conducted by the Department of Economics.
About the Department of Economics
Economics is a social science that studies the economic behavior of people. Contrary to popular belief, economics does not teach people to make money, but to recognize opportunities to improve social welfare. Specializing in economics provides students with an in-depth understanding of economic theories and the necessary knowledge that will enable them to comprehend the functioning of economies at national, regional and global levels. The Department of Economics aims to provide its students with perspectives in both the theoretical and practical areas of economics, thus providing its graduates with a certain level of competitive advantage in economic issues before making their professional choices.
Unemployment and inflation, economic growth, international economic relations and economic policies are among the topics that economics examines, which enables us to understand the problems in today's societies. Economists should have the knowledge that can bring solutions to the problems to be encountered in practice and even be effective in the decisions of those who hold the management; they should be able to respond to the needs of the age by improving their analytical thinking and synthesizing abilities. On the other hand, economics also analyzes the forces and trends affecting unemployment, the increase in average income and the level of price increases.
The aim of the Department of Economics is to provide students with the knowledge and equipment necessary to analyze economic events, make predictions and make the right decisions in a rapidly changing and developing world. The timely transfer of the latest economic developments in both theory and practice to students is among our primary objectives.
