About The Department : Biotechnology is a sector that is connected with research centers and universities, having high employment rate and high R&D intensity, unlike other classical sectors. Today, the field of biotechnology offers crucial opportunities to solve the problems that we face as humanity on the environment, health, food, energy and agriculture. In addition to the production of many medicinal plants and animals, many inland biotechnological methods such as various antibiotics, antibodies, vaccines, artificial organs and tissue production are utilized. Furthermore, biotechnology offers technological solutions to health, natural resource and ecosystem sustainability issues, and contributes to increased productivity through its use in different industries. Biotechnology Department in the Faculty of Science was opened by the Council of Higher Education within the year of 2016 and accepted the first students to Undergraduate Program in 2016-2017 academic year. Purpose of Department : Department of Biotechnology aims to teach students about a comprehensive and adequate knowledge in all fields of Biotechnology and to graduate students who know scientific research principles, obey ethical rules and put the theoretical knowledge into practice. Admission Requirements : Pursuant to the legal and academic regulations of the university, students must complete the processes/pass the exams set by the SSPC (Student Selection and Placement Center). Graduation Requirements : Students who successfully complete all compulsory courses specified in the course plan and the minimum number of elective courses required; complete 240 ECTS credits and have a minimum CGPA of 2.00/4.00 will graduate. Transition to higher level : After completing the program successfully, student can apply for Master's and PhD programs of the same or similar scientific areas, which accept students from the science of Biotechnology. Assessment Questionnaire : Graduates can work as different positions such as production supervisor, specialist, specialist assistant, research and development manager at industries based on food, chemistry, energy, plant biotechnology (seed banks, in-vitro plant breeding centers and microbial-based fertilizer industry) and industries based on fermentation technology, facilities containing biotechnological process, biotechnological R&D activities, private and publicly owned environmental institutions that produce biotechnological solutions to environmental problems, especially waste water treatment, private or public health institutions producing drugs, diagnostic kits, medical devices and materials. Furthermore, they can work as Specialist, Assistant Specialist, Project Manager and Researcher at public research institutions, TUBITAK (the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey), and other public institutions. Examination Assessment : Assessment and evaluation system of each course is defined by “Bartın University Undergraduate Regulations”.
