The programme in Islamic History and Arts offers courses on central themes relating to political, social, cultural, literary, and artistic developments over the approximately 1,450 years of Islamic history. The programme addresses a wide range of topics and accordingly houses four departments under its roof: the department of Islamic History, the department of History of Turkish-Islamic Arts, the department of Turkish-Islamic Literature, and the department of Turkish Religious Music. The inclusive nature of the programme enables students to have comprehensive access to the history of the Islamic religion. They should be able to develop a solid historical and chronological grasp of the diverse topics of the field, read archival documents, and attain a systematic understanding of the various forms of Islamic Arts (poetry, music, literature, etc.).
