The aim of our department is to train "information professionals" who can do information and records management work in public or private sector organizations such as libraries, museums, archives, archives, information centers, companies producing information technologies and databases, publishing, R&D, and as researchers in the field of information-document management. Institutions / organizations such as libraries, archives, museums, information centers are obliged to provide services such as providing, storing, cataloging-classifying, indexing, providing access to these resources as soon as possible and making them available in a regular, systematic, scientific and quality manner. In these organizations, they can work with different titles such as 'librarian', 'information specialist', 'information manager', 'archivist', 'documentologist', which are in the category of 'information professionals'.
Today's information age and technology increase the demand for information in order for individuals and societies to sustain and develop their existence in a more qualified, more effective and efficient manner. The realization of the vital and strategic importance of information by societies and individuals has led to the establishment of more appropriate and systematic relationships between those who demand information and information sources. At the same time, the diversity and quantitative increase in information resources has increased the importance and improved the services of libraries/information centers that host, organize and provide access to these resources. Information centers provide creative, innovative, quality services by using new technologies to connect information resources and researchers.
It should be ensured that information professionals are trained within the framework of the discipline of 'information management' who have knowledge about the types and characteristics of library/information centers, information resources, users, information access, electronic resources, creative library/information services in the institutions/organizations where they will work and who can manage these institutions in the most efficient way. The new department will focus on library and information science, information and document management, and information technology. Modern information technologies will also be utilized in teaching in this department.
Our department, which will offer different programs at undergraduate and graduate (initially master's) level, has 5 faculty members who are nationally and internationally recognized for their successful research and studies in their fields of expertise.
