1. Departmental Context and Research Mission
The Department of Management Science and Technology (MST), at the Hellenic Mediterranean University, is an active academic department as part of the School of Administrative Sciences and Economics. The Department's focus is broad and focused on the intersection of management theory and practice; and, data driven decision making; organizational systems and technology innovation.
It seeks to provide analytical rigor combined with practical application to address contemporary issues relating to organizations, economies and technologies.
The Department's Doctoral Studies program will continue to build on this foundation by developing scholars who are able to conduct original research that adds to our understanding in the areas of management science, information systems, digital transformation, business analytics, and organizational design.
The Department has created a research culture that is fostered through collaborative work and engagement with external partners; regular research seminars; and, academic dissemination opportunities that allow the Department's faculty and doctoral students to engage with global scholarly communities.
2. Doctoral Programme Structure and Progression
The PhD in Management Science and Technology operates within national statutory frameworks and the Department's own policies. The typical time frame for full-time study can be at least three (3) years, however, this may be extended for up to six (6) years based upon the complexity and scale of the research undertaken by the student.
Admission to the program will be competitive, and subject to the applicant having appropriate academic credentials, a record of relevant research experience, and developing a doctoral research proposal that is consistent with the interests and capabilities of departmental faculty. Applicants to the program will submit a research proposal outlining their research questions, conceptual framework, preliminary methodology, and the expected implications of their work.
Following admission into the program, the candidate will enter a research-focused period of their studies where they are expected to be undertaking independent research rather than coursework. During this period the candidate is expected to develop their research agenda, undertake and conduct rigorous analyses, and engage with the existing literature in the field. In addition to their independent research activities, the candidate is required to regularly meet with their supervisors to provide them with feedback and critique on the quality of their work.
The doctoral dissertation serves as the major indicator of the student's scholarly abilities. The dissertation must demonstrate original thought, methodological rigor, and contribute new knowledge to the discipline of either theory or practice in the areas of management science and technology. Upon the successful completion, the student will present their dissertation in a public oral defense of their dissertation to an expert panel of examiners.
