The Master Program of Highway Engineering and Development (STJR) ITB is one of the pioneering postgraduate programs at the university. It began as a non-degree program in 1975, initiated through a collaboration with the Department of Public Works and supported by international teaching staff from the Netherlands and Japan. In 1982, the program evolved into a full master’s program. STJR has maintained strong international ties, collaborating with leading universities in the United Kingdom such as the University of Birmingham, University College London (UCL), and the University of Leeds. The program also received support from the World Bank until 2000. Since then, it has been independently managed by ITB as a regular academic program, continuing to grow and develop to this day. In line with its body of knowledge, STJR offer three sub-programs or specialization, which are Highway Engineering, Traffic Engineering, and Transportation Engineering. STJR aims to produce graduates of strong character who: 1. Possess the ability to advance and innovate in the science of planning, construction, and maintenance of sustainable road and transportation infrastructure, supported by a solid mastery of approaches, methods, and scientific principles, along with their practical applications; 2. Demonstrate the capability to address challenges in road and transportation infrastructure through research and development activities grounded in scientific reasoning; 3. Uphold high standards of ethics and professional conduct, as reflected in their analytical acumen, comprehensive evaluation skills, and integrated problem-solving abilities.
