Mining Engineering is a discipline that integrates theory, science, technology, and applications for extracting and processing minerals to enhance their value. Beyond production, this field also focuses on mitigating the environmental impact of mining activities. The Master Program in Mining Engineering offers four areas of expertise: Earth Resources Exploration, Geomechanics, Mineral & Coal Management and Economics, and Mining Environmental Management. Strong industry collaboration ensures graduates have career opportunities in mining sectors, research, and consultancy. Graduates are expected to be innovative, industry-responsive, and recognized nationally and internationally. Fields of Expertise Earth Resources Exploration Systematic exploration is essential to understanding mineral deposit distribution, evaluating resources and reserves, and managing them economically while following mineral conservation principles. Advanced exploration technology enhances resource discovery and contributes significantly to national development. Geomechanics Underground construction, including tunnels and mining stopes, is increasing in Indonesia. Due to its high risks, expertise is needed in excavation stability, design, and underground construction technology. This program prepares professionals to manage geomechanical projects and technology transfer efficiently. Mineral & Coal Management and Economics The role of mineral and coal resources in the economy is growing. Their exploitation must be effective and efficient, integrating economic, financial, legal, and management aspects with engineering knowledge. This program aims to develop professionals with a strong understanding of mineral and coal economics and high integrity. Mining Environmental Management Mining operations inevitably impact the environment. By characterizing environmental conditions early, a well-planned, sustainable mining strategy can be developed. This program trains experts in environmental management to ensure responsible and eco-friendly mining practices. Thesis Research Focus Exploration and characterization of mineral and coal deposits Rock engineering: excavation stability, slope and tunnel analysis, numerical modeling Mine ventilation, water chemistry modeling, geochemical studies on acid mine drainage Economic analysis of the mineral and coal industry, resource allocation optimization Laboratory Facilities Mine Environmental Laboratory Mineral Exploration & Evaluation Laboratory Mineralogy, Microscopy & Geochemistry Laboratory Hydrogeology & Hydrogeochemistry Laboratory Geomechanics & Mining Equipment Laboratory Mine Planning & Valuation Laboratory Mineral Economics & Computation Laboratory This program aims to produce highly skilled graduates in exploration, resource management, and environmental mitigation, supporting both industry and sustainable development.
