Biosystems Technology deals with the investigation and biotechnological / medical use of biological systems. Predominantly system and engineering-related tools such as mathematical modelling are used alongside modern molecular biology methods to, for example, better understand complex phenomena such as the regulation of metabolic pathways or the functionality of signal transmissions in cells. The knowledge obtained opens up new possibilities in the many areas of modern medicine and biotechnological production. Increasing amounts of research and development activity in the strongly interdisciplinary area of systems biology are being accompanied by an increasing need for highly qualified personnel with knowledge and experience in the areas of biology, systems science and engineering who are able to link these effectively.
