The program includes:

  • A foundational study of the core areas of German Linguistics, Modern German Literature, and German Medieval Studies (covering German language and literature from its beginnings to the early modern period). This component aligns with national and international standards in German Studies and provides a solid basis for pursuing a master's degree.

  • An interdisciplinary foundation module, in which students can choose between a history or philosophy module. Additionally, they attend a lecture series on current key societal topics, jointly organized by multiple disciplines within the Faculty of Human Sciences.

  • A specialization profile, allowing students to deepen their academic focus and expand their career-relevant qualifications in German Studies. From the second semester onward, students select one of the following five specialization tracks:

    A) Media (with course components in media education, philosophy, and computer science)
    B) Cultural Economics (with elements from economics and business studies)
    C) German English Studies (including English studies and comparative literatur
    D) Language and Computer Science (with a focus on computational linguistics and informatics)
    E) German as a Foreign Language / German as a Second Language
