The English Department offers an undergraduate study program
leading to a bachelor's degree in the English language major. This degree
prepares students to:
• Teaching the English language in middle and high schools,
or any similar level in English language teaching centers, after the student
obtains appropriate educational training.
• Continuing their studies in advanced programs such as the
Master’s program in Linguistics, the Master’s in Literature, or any program
closely related to their specialty.
• Engage in a number of professions that require English
language skills.
To ensure that students in the Bachelor of English Language
program obtain full knowledge in the field of specialization, this program
seeks to achieve the following practical goals:
The first stage: Developing students’ linguistic
skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, so that the graduate of
the program can use these skills in various situations with complete ease.
The second stage: Providing students with basic knowledge in:
• Theories of linguistics that provide a description of the
various aspects of the language, including sounds, morphology, grammar, and
semantics, with the focus of these theoretical sciences being on the English
language.
• The most important theories related to language
acquisition as a second language, including issues of reading and writing
theories in English as a foreign language, and research and applications in
learning English as a foreign language.
• The most important literary works, including the most
prominent poets, novels, plays, short stories, and selections of
twentieth-century prose.
• Some issues related to sociolinguistics and
psycholinguistics.
• Foundations for evaluating students’ performance in
English as a second language, and evaluating their skills and competence.
• The main issues in translation, its principles and
methods.
• Islamic texts written in English.

Admission Requirements
1. The student must be of Saudi nationality or have a Saudi
mother.
2. Obtaining a secondary school certificate or its
equivalent from inside or outside the Kingdom.
3. The high school diploma must not have been more than
(two) years old for medical and health colleges, and (5) years old for the rest
of the other specializations.
4. The student’s age must not exceed (25) years.
5. Passing the required Qiyas Center tests (General
Abilities - Achievement - English Language Proficiency STEP) for those wishing
to join the English Language Department with a score of no less than (60).
6. The student must not have been disciplinary dismissal
from the university or another university.
7. The student must submit his/her application for admission
through the unified admission portal within the specified period.
