Mechanical engineering is considered one of the most broad and comprehensive basic engineering specializations for all engineering applications. It covers very wide technical and industrial areas. Such as the design and manufacture of machines, devices, processes, mechanical and thermal industrial systems, energy conversion systems, and mechanical and electrical power generation. It also includes methods for transmitting power through the design, production, and use of special means for that (heat exchangers, pipelines, gears, etc.), as well as refrigeration and air conditioning systems. The Department of Mechanical Engineering was established in 1408 AH, corresponding to 1987 AD, in the College of Engineering and Islamic Architecture. The Department of Mechanical Engineering at Umm Al-Qura University has a great legacy and distinguished tradition in research, teaching, and communication with industry, both locally and internationally. 
The department has more than thirty-five faculty members supported by a dedicated administration and cooperating technical and administrative groups. The department has more than 650 undergraduate students, while the number of master’s students exceeds 70. The number of graduates of the department exceeds 2,000 graduates who hold important positions in various sectors.
