The Economics Program at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of the Royal and Pontifical University of San Francisco Xavier of Chuquisaca is an ARCU-SUR MERCOSUR-accredited program with a quality seal certification, facilitating student mobility and mutual recognition of degrees among MERCOSUR countries. This accreditation has positioned Economics as a high-quality higher education institution in the teaching-learning process.
Vision: The Economics Program is an academic community of excellence, cultured, with a critical spirit, a leader in the generation of knowledge and in the training of high-level professionals, committed to the integral development of the country and the world, practicing and disseminating values directed towards the consolidation of a multicultural, democratic, just, tolerant, and respectful society of human rights and the environment. Mission: The Economics Program is a higher education institution specializing in economics, dependent on the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of the U. M. R. P. S. F. X. CH., which trains professional economists characterized by being efficient, ethical, and committed to the development of their region and capable of working in the field of economic science with a comprehensive approach through innovative and quality training and research.
Professional Profile: The professional profile is consistent with the ARCU-SUR system and states: "The economist is the social scientist whose field of study is social processes. They have a deep knowledge of the different doctrines, theories, methods, and techniques of economic analysis; (... ) which allows them to study specific situations and problems and propose viable and efficient solutions. They apply the knowledge obtained to formulate economic policies and anticipate solutions to current or foreseeable economic problems. They are aware of the economic, social, and environmental reality that surrounds them. They assume the commitment to contribute to the transformation of society and the promotion of better living standards and the preservation of ecological balance. The professional economist conducts studies and research. They advise on the analysis of trends in the evolution of the national and international economic system. They are an expert professional in theoretical or applied economics, who studies and analyzes both the causes and consequences of economic phenomena involving costs and benefits, through which they structure, interpret, and develop models and laws. "
Admission: Admission to the Economics program is centered on an admission exam, admission for the best high school graduate, best athlete, and cultural agreements with indigenous peoples of Bolivia.
Curriculum: The general objective of the curriculum is to train excellent professionals by improving academic quality, promoting the generation of competencies, and developing skills in the interpretation of economic phenomena. This plan is structured over four years and includes basic courses in microeconomics, macroeconomics, and quantitative methods/econometrics. These provide a solid foundation in economic theory and data analysis. Additionally, students take other broader courses, covering a variety of economic topics such as international economics, finance, monetary and fiscal economics, environmental economics, growth and cycles, economic policy, and economic development. This ensures that graduates have a broad understanding of the discipline.
Graduation: Students also have the opportunity to participate and choose the graduation modality, such as a thesis, research project, internship, or directed work. Since 2023, the diploma program has been incorporated, allowing students to gain practical experience in their field of study.
Partnerships and Activities: The Economics Program has agreements with the departmental and municipal government of Chuquisaca and public and private companies, where students can carry out their internships. One of the social interaction activities of the Economics Program is the theatrical representation of the economic situation called "The Aesthetic and Beautiful Economy" and the publication of statistical and economic analysis in the virtual economic bulletin. In the research area, economic debates and research work are carried out in teams of teachers and students, which have been published in the program's virtual bulletin and in indexed journals such as Scielo, Redalyc, Dialnet, and Scopus.
