The PhD program “Sciences of the Literary and Musical Text” draws together and refines the long-established experiences of three distinct PhDs: in Modern Philology, in Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures, and in Musicology. Rooted in a shared philological methodology, this PhD program aims to promote historical and theoretical research in literary studies from the ancient classics to the present, and in musicology. Its wide cultural scope offers the opportunity to create both interdisciplinary and comparative projects, which can take the form both of shared didactic activities (cycles of seminars and lectures), and of interdisciplinary dissertations, which can be supervised collaboratively by lecturers of different curricula.
The primary objective of this PhD program is to prepare scholars able to combine philological rigour, analytical skills and attention to textual materiality and wording. Scholars will acquire and develop a historic and systemic awareness as well as wide-ranging interpretative abilities, which will enable them to tackle different research themes and highly qualified professional environments.
