History of Civilization as a discipline has its own characteristics compared to other study programs in the field of history, namely the focus of its studies which are wrapped in Islam, especially local Islam which has its own characteristics.
The History of Civilization Study Program was established with the aim of preparing human resources for a master's degree (S2) or master's level who are experts and qualified in the field of history, especially Islamic history, by preparing human resources according to needs. This is in accordance with the vision that has been proclaimed, namely "Becoming a Superior and Competitive Study Program in the Field of Islamic Civilization History Based on the Paradigm of Revelation Guiding Science at the Southeast Asian Level in 2025"
The S2 SPI study program is a nomenclature used by UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung, referring to KMA Number 33 of 2016 concerning Academic Degrees of Religious Higher Education, and is stated in the government policy on higher education.
The S2 SPI study program organizes face-to-face learning in class, and carries out learning evaluations for students in various forms, namely independent assignments (TM), structured assignments (TST), UTS and UAS, proposal seminar exams, comprehensive exams, and Thesis exams, which test students' thesis research. This is carried out in order to implement higher education governance.
The S2 SPI Postgraduate study program of UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung in the governance mechanism, leadership and management system, is led by a director and head of study program who are responsible to the director, they are tasked with leading all implementation of the management of UPPS and the S2 SPI Postgraduate study program of UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung, the student lecture process, and those related to teaching, research and service of the lecturers.
The management system of this S2 SPI study program is in accordance with the guidelines used by both the University. According to PMA 14 of 2015 concerning the Statutes of UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung, the determination of the Director is appointed by the Record while the Head of Study Program is carried out upon the recommendation of the Director.
Student recruitment for the S2 SPI study program is through the independent PBT/CBT route. Prospective students who register for the S2 SPI study program must meet the requirements set by the Postgraduate Program of UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung. With these requirements, it is hoped that it will produce student input that has not only academic abilities, but also the ability to complete postgraduate education.
