This course is a top-up degree consisting of one compulsory and five option modules, acquainting to 120 credits. The course is aimed at those nurses who wish to further their knowledge within the context of General Practice. Students will have opportunity to undertake a variety of modules according to need and/or interest. This is a unique and flexible approach to learning, as the student can chose from catalogue of modules focussing on practice nursing skills such as  long term conditions, acute management of patients, treatment room skills, leadership skills and non-medical prescribing.

Admission Requirements

  • Be working in a general practice environment that will enable them to meet and achieve the course learning outcomes.
  • Hold 120 credits or equivalent at level 5 study, for those students with no prior academic credit / qualifications, an AP(E)L Portfolio route is available in order for students to demonstrate the ability to study and achieve level 5 outcomes and show equivalence to Dip HE (please note that this takes time, an APL claim should be started at least 9 months prior to the start of the academic year in September)
  • Have the ability to be self-funding or have the commitment of their employer to support course fees.
  • Be able to provide two references (one practice / work and one academic).
  • Have their manager’s support for the course (where appropriate).
