Foundation Entry degree courses are designed for students who have the ability to study for a degree, but don’t have the necessary formal qualifications to enter directly onto their chosen Honours degree programme. If you’re interested in solving problems and finding out how things work, then this course is designed as an entry route onto any of UCLan’s Physics and Astrophysics degrees if you do not possess the traditional entry requirements. The Foundation Year is the same for all Physics or Astrophysics students and small class sizes ensure you will receive individual attention. You will study three physics modules and three mathematics modules which will help you develop an understanding of the fundamentals of classical and quantum physics, along with the mathematical ability to express those ideas, and the laboratory experience necessary to perform real physics experiments. Successful completion of the Foundation Year with a sufficient overall grade will allow students to progress on to any of the full BSc (Hons)/MPhys Physics or Astrophysics degrees.
