1. Students are well equipped with the knowledge of the concepts of Bharatanatyam and develop them with presentation skills, research skills and also teaching skills. The students are imparted knowledge by encapsulating the historic, theoretical and practical aspects.

2. Students are encouraged to pursue research in the field of bharatanatyam, or become successful performers, competitive teachers and professors of bharatanatyam with the knowledge gained through the course.

3. The meticulously drafted syllabus of the MA Programme lays a strong foundation and also provides expertise in the field of Bharatanatyam for the students to preserve the history, give shape to the present and develop the future. The course makes the students understand and preserve the value of art and culture of India through Bharatanatyam.

4. Individual students are groomed according to their interest and field during the course. A music course is linked to the main program to help the student gain musical knowledge as music is an integral part of dance. Students also obtain substantial knowledge about the history of Indian music during the study of the two comprehensive theory papers, History of Music – Tamil tradition and History of Music – Sanskrit tradition. The student develops the skills of a good and competitive dancer at the end of the course.

5. The Bharatanatyam repertoire papers enrich the students with performing to different varieties of compositions of different composers across time periods and in different languages. Thus the repertoire of the student is highly fulfilling.

6. Students are trained in performance style with a very strong theoretic background and are capable to showcase the same at the end of the course.

7. Knowledge and skills: Ability to exhibit various important theoretical aspects in Dance and Music Texts (Lakshana grantha-s), Performing dance, evolution of dance and its several elements is developed during the course. Knowledge of music pertaining to structure, tuning, playing techniques of Musical Instruments, regional music, devotional music, compositions of various composers is imparted to the students. Importance to Bharatanatyam as well as other various Indian dance forms is given in the course. Important texts in literature that have references to ancient Tamil dance forms, abhinayas, sculptures depicting dance, and other aspects associated with dance are taught to the students. The programme curriculum is a preparation for the students as a performer and as a teacher as per their interests.

8. Skilled communicator: Students develop presentation, expression, writing, elocution and debating skills in the subject of music through the course. This is exhibited in their performances, project presentations etc.
